Officers Found Not Liable of Violating Woman’s First Amendment Rights

Five police officers were found not liable on claims by a woman that they violated her constitutional rights. A west suburban woman claimed that the officers retaliated against her after she complained about the investigation of a sexual assault claim made by her daughter. The woman drove around town with a sign painted on her car window critical of the police.

While one officer was found liable, the police officers represented by Tom Weiler were found not liable, with the jury rejecting the plaintiff’s claims that Tom’s clients violated her civil rights. The case was tried in federal court before Magistrate Judge Sidney Schenkier.
